jesus on the el

I’ve been wanting to start this blog since I saw Jesus on the el last November (2003). I was sitting on the red line, coming home from an unsuccessful attempt to get a haircut and return some pants downtown, and I’m re-reading this article Negotiated Collusion: Modeling Social Language and its Relationship Effects in Intelligent Agents. Just after I read this line–

…for example, if you are telling your office mate a highly charged story about the crazy person in the subway that morning, and your office mate replies, not by nodding or otherwise acknowledging your
story, but instead by asking if you want a cup of coffee, that will threaten your face. (p8)

this guy dressed in a full Jesus costume — white robes, rosaries, a crown (which looks like a gold metal, girl’s hair band), coagulated fake blood on his face, and of course, holding a giant wooden cross — SITS DOWN NEXT TO ME. At this point, I’m beside myself with the cosmic improbability of the coincidence, and I think, hey, I have a camera in my new phone. Making like I’m looking at something in the phone, I clandestinely pointed it at him and snapped off a couple. So after that, I decided, I should start a blog. I ran into a lot of trouble setting it up with movable type, but it seems to be working now with this sweet wordpress setup. Here’s the pictures to proove it:
