Research Interests

My recent research activities have focused on applied artificial intelligence. In broad terms, I'm interested in:

  • Intelligent systems
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning, especially qualitative reasoning, analogical reasoning and spatial reasoning
  • The role of AI in education
  • The role of AI in human computer interaction

For my dissertation, I am building a system that learns qualitative science knowledge by reading and visually interpreting multimodal instructional analogies.

My advisor is Ken Forbus and my research is supported by the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center, a cross-institutional NSF science of learning center.
