Weekly Problem Set #1



Due Time:

The written problems should be turned in on paper at the start of class on Friday, 4/10/2009.

The programming assignments should be deposited in the Blackboard Digital Dropbox before the class on Friday, 4/10/2009.

Written Problems:

  1. (12.5 points) Exercise 1.6 on page 42.
  2. (12.5 points) Exercise 1.9 on page 43.
  3. (12.5 points) Exercise 1.11 on page 43.
  4. (12.5 points) Exercise 1.24 on page 44.

Programming Assignments: Write your programs in Matlab. Turn in both the programs and the outputs. Organize the outputs neatly and comment them.

  1. (25 points) Computer Problem 1.5 (b) and (c) on page 45. Also repeat (c) but use the mathematically equivalent formula f(x) = (exp(x)-1)/exp(log(x).
  2. (25 points) Computer Problem 1.14 on page 47.
