DIGRA Conference Vancouver, 2005 |

I arrived in Vancouver early in the afternoon, and was, as always, taken in by the scenery.
En route (at O'Hare Airport) a woman ran over my shoe with her "wheelie bag" and broke it - so the first thing I did after checking in to the hotel was to get it fixed. The repair shop was steps from the hotel, super fast, friendly and cheap. It was located in a nifty underground shop row, where everyone smiled. Vancouver really is just super nice.

Down on the water, near the civic center, they are building a new music shell and park. I watched this crew pump concrete into tubes below the bay's surface for about an hour, while eating a pannin I'd picked up next to the shoe repair place. I kept imagining what it feels like to pass a building and think "I laid the foundation for that!"
After lunch, I walked around town some more, just to see the sights and people.

Opening night at DIGRA - Ian, Andrew and I played Organum with Jane.
DIGRA is actually the Dreadlocks Infrastructure and Goatee Research Association.
Henry's panel at the Wosk Center for Dialog. My session was here too, and it was freaky. At one point, when we were all standing around chatting, post-talk, Matteo stood up and turned on a mic, announced that aliens had landed and were taking over the planet, and asked for a vote on the use of nuclear weapons to take them out. It was priceless!
IGDA meeting where developers and academics had a chance to mingle. Or... something.
Obligatory long exposures after drinks.
James giving his talk on the closing day - which made me look forward to GLS!
