I study the flow and regulation of dramatic tension within interactive video games (the player's immersive experience of challenge, struggle and triumph at the controls).

My dissertation project (Hamlet) explores the computational and design requirements necessary for successful dynamic difficulty adjustment. The work examines different techniques for representing and reasoning about uncertainty, and explores how these approaches can be extended and combined to create flexible, interactive experiences that adjust on the fly.
