Jack Tumblin Files Joint Patent Application for "Gradient Camera"

December 8, 2004

Jack Tumblin filed a joint patent application with Mitsubishi Electric Research Lab for a novel type of camera entitled "Gradient Camera." This is a digital camera that works by sensing intensity gradients rather than intensities. Unlike existing cameras, with this new camera, no matter what you photograph, you never have over-exposed or under-exposed regions in the picture.
