GenScope is a project under Paul Horwitz at the Concord Consortium. The home page is at http://genscope.concord.org/index.html.

Download the software and a copy of the GenScope tour, both available at http://genscope.concord.org/downloads/index.html (or indirectly from the home page). Walk through the tour to get a feel for the software. Unfortunately, I do not have a sense of how long that should take, but I’m also hoping that you have time to walk through one of the activities outlined at http://genscope.concord.org/downloads/activities/contents.htm. These activities usually require you to download a separate data file; you’ll already find a few of these downloaded to the class machine. At a minimum, you should read through a few of the activities to get a sense for how the software is intended to be used in a classroom.
